Our Partnership with AFSA
Indigo Early Learning Centre is proud to offer a Forest School program aligned with the six key principles of Australian Forest School programs. Our approach focuses on regular nature immersion, connection to Country, free play and natural learning, inclusivity, mentoring, and sustainable practice.
Children enjoy at least two hours of nature immersion over multiple sessions each year—ideally weekly. We believe consistent, long-term experiences in nature deepen ecological knowledge, build confidence, and provide opportunities for children to practice new skills and embrace challenges at their own pace.
We acknowledge and respect Australian First Nations people and their enduring connection to the land. Our Forest School actively seeks meaningful relationships with local Indigenous communities, maintains a commitment to Reconciliation, and integrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout our program. Many sessions are joined by a local Aboriginal Elder, guided by our Indigenous Support Manager.
Our sessions honour play, offering a flexible structure that allows for natural flow and learner-led exploration. Children engage in long periods of free play and self-chosen activities, supported by educators who ensure safety while encouraging curiosity and discovery.
We are committed to inclusivity and accessibility for all, regardless of age, ability, background, or circumstance. Programs are designed with anti-bias and social justice principles, offering every child the opportunity to learn, belong, and grow within a supportive community.
Our Forest School Leaders mentor children to embrace adventure and challenge, nurturing resilience and celebrating achievements. All leaders hold appropriate qualifications and undertake ongoing professional learning to refine their practice and uphold these principles.
Sustainability underpins every aspect of our program. We operate with respect for local ecology and embed sustainable practices into both our learning experiences and business decisions. Children are encouraged to care for the environment and take part in activities that protect local habitats and species.
Through Indigo’s Forest School, we aim to nurture confident, capable learners who develop a deep connection with nature, a sense of belonging, and a lifelong respect for the world around them.
