our sustainable practices

Big hearts, little eco-warriors

At Indigo, caring for children goes hand-in-hand with caring for the planet. From what’s on the plate to how we garden, clean, and play, sustainability is woven into everyday life.

plant-based menus

We are proud to offer a 100% plant-based menu that sets the standard in early learning. Created with nutrition experts and accredited by Munch & Move, our meals exceed the daily minimum dietary requirements for children – a commitment recognised with a 5-Star Munch & Move Menu Award in 2021.

Our menus are full of variety and flavour: think hearty pastas, colourful salads, warming curries, and plenty of fresh fruit, veggies, legumes, and grains (with herbs and produce often grown in our very own gardens).

We’re mindful of every child’s needs and offer flexibility for allergies, intolerances, and family preferences. More than just healthy eating, our approach helps children build a love of good food and an understanding of how what we eat connects to caring for the planet.

Everyday Sustainability

At Indigo, little hands make a big difference:

  • Food scraps feed our worm farm → their “worm wee” keeps our gardens thriving.

  • Our happy chooks → eggs collected daily and shared with families.

  • Eco-friendly choices → from natural art supplies to safe, sustainable cleaners.

These everyday actions help children see just how powerful small choices can be.

teaching through action

Sustainability isn’t a lesson – it’s a way of life. At Indigo, children learn by:

  • Growing food in our gardens.

  • Caring for worms and chickens.

  • Going on nature walks and exploring bush tucker.

  • Cooking and preparing meals together.

  • Learning to recycle, save water, and reduce waste.

Through these experiences, our children become confident, caring eco-warriors who want to protect their world.
